Professor Larry Engel recently took his RigMount and RigMount X to Cuba. Here’s what he had to say.
“Cuba: Through the eyes of a GoPro Hero2 and a Sony A77 .
I’m a professor and filmmaker at American University’s School of Communication in Washington, DC and just got back from a weeklong trip to Cuba to begin professional research on several documentary projects and collaborations with filmmakers and teachers in Cuba.
The stories range from looking at the history of modern Cuba through the “eyes” of their 1950s car relics (cars that my grandfather and father drove us around in when I was a kid!), the rich musical relationship of Chinway (from Southeastern Cuba) to Soul and Salsa, to the importance of traditional farming and agricultural practices in informing policies and decisions about contemporary industrial farming that ultimately may not be sustainable.
I had a chance to do some filming in Havana with my Hero2 (GoPro) and Sony A77. Both were mounted on Rigwheels’ magnetic mounts, which not only are really solid and secure, but also did no damage whatsoever to the great 1952 Desoto11 that we filmed from (the taxi driver/owner is a certified Gran Car driver and he just got the car repainted in wonderful red; it took him a year to get the car back in shape after he bought it).
So enjoy! And don’t be afraid of car mounts any longer!
